“An important observation at periodontal maintenance appointment is whether the tissues bleed when probed. If there is not bleeding, the mouth is healthy. If there is bleeding and it is seen on several subsequent recalls, additional treatment in that area is warranted.”

While a visit to your periodontist will take in to account many different factors, bleeding gums is an example of underlying issues. If you’ve notices bleeding gums at home (after eating, brushing your teeth or flossing) you may want to consult your dentist or a periodontist.
