Unless you’re a dentist, periodontist or someone who has a background in oral care, you
may have questions about what periodontists do and how they can help you with dental issues.
We understand that our patients have questions. Here are a few answers to some of the common questions we’re asked at our Ft. Lauderdale and Deerfield Beach offices.
Definitely, and much of that can be attributed to greater patient awareness of oral care, gum disease and other common dental hygiene issues. For example, our patients tend to be well informed about the risk of gum disease and they are willing to take an active part in the fight against it.
For the most part, yes. With greater awareness of keeping your teeth clean and because visiting the dentist has become routine, oral hygiene has increased. Also, better technology helps – from tooth brush and flossing improvements to advancements in LANAP treatments, better x-ray imaging and more.
Most procedures and treatments for periodontal issues are relatively pain-free. Remember, pain is subjective and unique to each individual patient. For the average patient, there truly is little discomfort, both during the procedures and afterward.
At our offices, we work hard to create an environment that is supportive and understanding of people’s fear of oral care. We also use the latest procedures and technology which help to reduce discomfort.
Generally, cosmetic surgery is not surgery required to address a problem. Rather, it’s surgery that is elective and is an option for patients who are not entirely happy with the way their smile looks. We have many cosmetic procedures to help patients who want to make a change to their smile!
If you have questions for a periodontist – what we do, how we can help your smile, how we treat gum disease or what services we provide for ‘fixing smiles’ – please contact our offices. We’d be happy to talk more with you!
