It’s important to remember that each patient is different.

Knowing that, periodontal disease can be genetic. That means that if a patient’s family has a history of dealing with periodontitis, then they are likely pre-disposed to getting it too.

And certainly, it can also be caused by poor oral hygiene and overall dental negligence that have transpired over many, many years.

With many patients, it’s a combination of the two though regardless of the causes, by the time it’s discovered, it’s more important to focus on the treatment and care of the specific problem.
