One of the common procedures done at our Ft. Lauderdale periodontist office, is a procedure called Scaling and Root Planing.
At its essence, periodontal treatment is focused on the removal of calculus and plaque from the teeth. Scaling and root planing removes calculus and other toxic material from the tooth’s roots to encourage reattachment of gum tissue. This helps treat and prevent periodontal disease (or gum disease).
What is SCALING?
Removing debris from the crown of the tooth is often referred to as scaling.
What is ROOT PLANING?
Root planing (also called debridement) is the cleaning of the tooth below the gum. This procedure is also referred to as a deep cleaning.
