Yes! Periodontal Health can be an Important Factor in Better Diabetes Control

According to a new report from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) periodontal health may play an important role in the management of diabetes.

Read about the report here at Perio.org.

Two important quotes from the press release, are:

“The consensus report is based on a large body of scientific evidence that suggests periodontal health may be helpful in controlling diabetes.”

“People living with diabetes are more likely to develop periodontal disease. At the same time, periodontal disease makes it more difficult for people with diabetes to control their symptoms because it can impair the body’s ability to process and/or utilize insulin.”

Patients who also have Diabetes are encouraged to share that with their periodontist and ask questions specific to your treatment. Our goal is to customize our treatment plans for our patients so we can provide the best possible care.
